Christina Zück: Defence Phase II Karachi

This blog is the second part of a project commissioned for the exhibition „embedded art – Kunst im Namen der Sicherheit“ at Akademie der Künste Pariser Platz, Berlin, from January to March 2009. The project was funded by Hauptstadtkulturfonds Berlin and Goethe Institut South Asia. It consists of the blog with digital photographs and texts and a series of analog photographs printed in „fine art photography“ style formats – these images are not published here.

Following exhibitions were: „TOGETHER MAKING YOU SAFER“, Kunstverein Langenhagen, March to April 2009, and „Defence Phase II Karachi“, The Picker Art Gallery at Colgate University, Hamilton, NY, April to July 2010.

Christina Zück is a visual artist and art historian. „Defence Phase II“ is the colloquial name of a neighbourhood in the „Defence Housing Authority“ Area of Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. All images depicting symbols of violence aim at the dissemination of non-violence, which is, as usual, a non resolvable paradox.

Really wonderful work which we saw today at t2f and that on his blog as well.
Yeah foolishly enough, violence around the world is being fought with even more violence, which is well depicted in some of the series of you pictures..

It was a pleasure being at the event today .. 🙂
